Vote Check · free, no link needed
Is there a quorum? Did the motion carry?
Put in the numbers from the meeting and the rule your bylaws set. Vote Check shows the quorum and the votes the motion needed. So Moved keeps nothing you type here; the numbers travel in the page address, so the web server’s access log records them like any other address.
How the counting works
- Majority of votes cast: more than half of the for and against votes. Abstentions and blank ballots do not count. A tie fails.
- Two-thirds of votes cast: at least twice as many for as against.
- Of members present / of the entire membership: counted against everyone present, or everyone entitled to vote, so an abstention works like a vote against.
- Quorum by majority: more than half the members entitled to vote.
These are the usual rules in Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised (12th ed., 2020): §40 for the quorum, §44 for the vote a motion needs. Your bylaws can set other rules, and then they decide. For an incorporated club or a nonprofit board, state law and your articles of incorporation also apply. For a disputed or legally important result, ask a parliamentarian or a lawyer. So Moved is not affiliated with the book’s authors or publisher.
